ZELVE
Zelve,
like the rest of the Cappadocia region, is of volcanic origin.
The volcano of Monte Argaeus (“Erciyes
Dag” in the local dialect) is still active; 3,917
meters high, it dominates the whole area and can be seen
at a distance. As in the case of other unusually-shaped
rock formations, the different compositions of the rocks
and their resulting hardness (tufas, basalts) has
enabled the various agents to mold the region in surrealistic
ways.
