TROYA
The
fascinating remains of this unique city, whose origins
are veiled in myth and legend, are visible in a limited
area situated to the south of the strait of the Dardanelles,
between the flood plain furrowed by the waters of the
Küçük Menderes and the hilly ramparts of Hisarlık. At
least in part, the conspicuous remains of an ancient
city that came to light in the archaeological excavations
begun in the middle of the 19th century fit the description
of the legendary Ilium celebrated in the famous
epic poem.
