PAMUKKALE
North
of Denizli a road leads to Pamukkale, the site of a unique
natural phenomenon, and to the important archaeological
zone of Hierapolis. The name Pamukkale means Castle
of Cotton and this is particularly apt in describing
one of the most extraordinary landscapes to be found in
nature. Here, in a landscape fascinating in its own right,
the action of various minarel springs which contain calcium
oxides has left fantastic concretions on the travertine
structures.
