THE CITADEL ON PAGOS HILL

Lysamachos, commander of alexander the Great, had the present citadel on Pagos hill erected in the 4th century B.C. The citadel was built in the form of an irregular polygon. The citadel was later restored by first the Byzantines and later the Turks, and today it is in quite good condition. From the Citadel one has a splendid view of the city and distant bay of Izmir.
