MILETUS
According
to Herodotus, in the 11th century B.C. the Ionians, under
the leadership of Neilos, conquered Miletus, whose inhibitants
were Cretans and Carians. the young Ionian city gained prosperity
in a short time. Having a prominent position, Miletus became
the most important port in its area. It was the most active
member of the twelve cities of the Ionia.
