BLUE
MOSQUE
Its
original name is Sultanahmet Mosque. Due to its blue tiles
inside, the mosque is called Blue mosque. This mosque
is also known as the only mosque with 6 minarets. Work
on the mosque began in 1609 and ended in 1616, just a
year before the death of the sultan who had spent
1,181 gold thalers on it. It is said that on the day of
solemn inauguration Ahmed I, as a sign of humility,
wore a hat in the shape of the Prophet’s foot.
